Title: Re: New Krag Barrels Post by leehanm on Dec 19th, 2009 at 3:10am
Hi All,
I’m new to this site. Looks like lots of good info. Maybe this is covered somewhere else, but I haven’t seen it yet. I have a Model 1896 (ser# 53,xxx). Like many out there the barrel and stock were shortened some time ago. I bought a replacement barrel from the CMP and would like to have it installed. It’s “in the white” so not only installation and head spacing, but it would have to be blued as well. My questions are: 1. What type of finish is correct for the barrel? I assume it was slow rust blued (browned). 2. Is there a gunsmith that specializes in Krags that can do the work? 3. Does anyone have any recommendations or ideas on my project? Maybe something I haven't thought of? I plan to restore the stock myself. I'll need to add about 10". The finish on the rest of the rifle looks very nice and doesn't need refinishing. Thanks, leehanm |
