Title: Krag Parts Gun?
Post by Lackdog on Jan 2nd, 2010 at 11:11pm
Hello all

This rifle was acquired from an estate and was curious what I have here.  My gunsmith friend took a look at it and was thinking it could of possibly been put together by S.A.  What has us stumped in the 1907 cartouche. :-?  We do know it is an 1898 receiver, 1899 barrel (not cut down) Constabulary, and it has a carbine stock.  Do we have something possibly rare or is it just a good ole parts gun.
Thanks for your time.

Parts gun. Constabulary/School guns are made on 1899 actions. and there are no GENUINE 1907 cartouches. The final "1" in the 1901 cartouche has a long serif - that is what you are reading as a "7". Or, it is a totally fake cartouche - no longer impossible, since new laser-cut stamps are now routinely sold by crooks on the 'net.
