Title: Norwegian Krag?? Post by Bobby on Jan 17th, 2010 at 2:22am
I just bought a Norwegian Krag at an estate sale. It is all original, with the serial number 84xx stamped on the stock, bolt handle, barrel, receiver, and magazine.
It has a crown proof mark and a date of 1916. Would anyone know anything about this rifle? Thanks |

"Would anyone know anything about this rifle?"
Yes....next question. OK, now that's out of the way, we can tell a lot more if you post a few clear pictures and provide the first 3 digits of the serial number, number of matching parts, barrel length, bore condition, and any other pertinent details. |

The serial number is 8466.
ALL the parts have the same serial number, barrel, bolt, receiver, magazine, butt stock and stock . It is approx. 95% with the stock in excellent condition. No pitting in or on the barrel either. It is a carbine, but not the engineer model. Finish is about 95% also.Very clean gun, someone took excellent care of this one. He used it for elk hunting here in Montana. Oh, and it has a stud on the barrel for the sight to flip over on, I assume this is for sighting in? I will try to get some pictures this week of it. I would appreciate any information you might have on this rifle. Thank you |

Sounds like you have a M1912/16 carbine. It was a mid size, short rifle of sorts, to serve all purposes. These are the most common variation in this country. The stud on the barrel was for the rear sight to flip over on to use as a "battle" sight. Is the stock still the full length of the barrel, are the hand guards still on it with the nose cap/bayo lug? Go to our website main page and check the photo section to see if it looks like any that are there.
