Title: Info on new krag Post by ozzie on Feb 15th, 2010 at 2:52pm
Hi. Can anyone help? I just got a krag and would like some info about it. It is in full military condition, full length barrel, frosted but no rust, has both barrel bands, original sights. The stock is in very good condition not cut down and has two cartouches, on left side of receiver is fancy letters and 1900, under pistol grip is 88 and fancy P in circle. Receiver has 1894 US Springfield Armory and s/n 3655. Please tell what you can about this rifle and maybe its value. I'll try to post pics later. Thanks

At best, it appears you have a Model 1896 rifle which has been converted to Model 1896 configuration, as most were.
At worst, you could have a "parts gun" as most of the conversions were not re-cartouched. Detailed pics will be required. There are more pics of original Krags on my website, (You need to Login |

Just to clarify, Dick means a model 1892 rifle converted to model 1896 configuration.

Bingo! Thanks, Tom!!
Ozzie sent me some pics - it is in an 1898-style stock, so, either the receiver has been ground, or the wood relieved. |
