Title: My first Krag. COOL
Post by 38 wcf on Mar 15th, 2010 at 12:04am
I have wanted a rifle in 30-40 krag for sometime now. Had my eye on the new Winchester 1895 carbine but the price seems steep for a replica. I know they are well made as I have a new 1895 in 405 Winchester and I am a lever kinda guy. Anyway, I stooped in at one of my favorite gun/pawn shops and they had this beautiful Krag carbine, M1899, for sale. I could not resist and put in on lay away untill I have the funds to complete the purchase.
I do not know anything beyond what the dealer told me and I do trust them. They said it was a true carbine, had a "C" on the rear sight etc. Looked very good to me at any rate.
The serial # is 357469 and the date on the stock cartouche is 1901.
Can anybody help out with any information on this rifle.?
Thanks in advance.

The Model 1899 is pretty much immune to any tomfoolery, since the receiver is marked, and the barrel is already short, so there's not a lot for Bubba to want to do. It basically boils down to condition. I have owned 357288 for many years - has same date stamp. Yours is probably just fine.

Sir,
Your serial # is so close to mine. Do you know anything concerning the history of your rifle.?
