Thanks for your responses!  The butt plate is gone on the rifle stock.  There is a small drilling some 2 inches ahead of the rear site.  Appears as though the  forward screw is broken off.  Rear sling strap attachment is missing.  Just in front of the front site, the outside muzzle diameter is smaller than the barrel diameter behind the front site.  Is this a modification for a different bayonet mount compared to other Krag bayonet mounts.  When you refer to a handguard, are you refering to the portion of the wooden stock that covers the top surface of the barrel around the rear site?  Is the shortened stock a post manufacturing modification or were they designed this way (I wasn't clear on your response to that point).   ;) ;) ;)
