I would like to get some history on this rifle, the barrel is 18", and it has a peep sight.

Hello,

Not sure what type of information you are looking for. From what I can tell from the photo is that it surely has been cutdown. Probably used to be an 1898 rifle. It looks like the metal is pretty heavily corroded and the wood is pretty rough too. Ther serial number and some more photos or more detailed description will help to get you more information.

Thanks for the reply, I figured it had been modified. I just wanted to know before before I turned it in to be destroyed.

The "after-market" Lyman peep sight and the modified cocking-piece of your Krag have value.� I don't know what you mean by 'turning it in to be destroyed'!� I am sure your Krag may have parts useful to a collector.

Please make us all happy and give it to a young collector.� The peep sight and altered cocking-piece are probably worth $100, if not bad condition-wise.

Have you gotten rid of this gun yet? I hope not. Please don't have it destroyed. I will take it off your hands and use it for parts or if in shootable condition I could pass it along to a young shooter or collector.
