thanks for the info. i didn't realize that there were so many different configurations. i didn't notice the muzzle, and the other alterations i had no idea. After looking at some of the pictures on this site i noticed that the rear site is the 1896 version. if it has been converted would that make it any easier to find the parts that i would need? i found a site that sells the upper hand guard and the cleaning rod. i'm not REAL concerned about the parts being the original parts from the 1890s. i would just like it to look original again. would it be possible to find a gunsmith or someone to make a stock for me. it seems to me that is the hardest part to find, but i could be wrong. i'll try to get some more info and pictures and post them. i appreciate all the help you've given me already.
