Title: One more "Is my 1898 Carbine real?" post. Thanks

This is my first Krag.  I generally concentrate on pre-war Smith & Wessons, but have a soft spot for carbines.
I took a chance on this one from a live auction.  Not knowing more about them, I didn't bid much($450).  The only part I see that for sure isn't right is the rear sight staff.  It's definitely from a rifle.  The sight base looks to be an original 'C' stamp.  I'm not sure about the slide.  My poor pic makes it look like the front sight has been re-attached, but I don't think that's the case.  It's just shadowing and grime.  Looks like it once had a sight protector on it.  If there is any question, I can get out the good camera, tripod and macro lense.
Serial number is 127814 which seems to fall in range.  Muzzel is properly crowned and shows expected wear and some peppering.  Front sight looks to be original.  Stock is definitely an orignial carbine and is properly cartouched '1898'.  Handguard and band look to be correct.  It shows plenty of outside wear with lots of mottling and a few small pits plus all the screws are buggered, but the bore is near perfect.  I can't wait to shoot it.

Thanks in advance for any further info or comments.
