Title: Question on The Krag Rifle Story by Mallory
Post by Kavorka on Jun 15th, 2011 at 12:35am
Iam new to the Krag Rifle.
I have the Krag book by Mallory. The back of the book lists serial numbers, model. mmddyy dates and usage.
What do the dates signify? Turn in of the Krags to armory? Retirement of the firearms?
Thank you Dave

Depends on the associated notation. If it says "issued" that's what it was. If a unit is cited, the date is when it was recorded in the records of that unit. If it says destroyed, that's when it was scrapped, etc. Even if it says nothing, you at least know whether it was recorded as a rifle or carbine.
