Hi all.  Yet another newbe with a question.  My son and I purchased a couple of krags a few years ago for hunting.  They both look like they have been modified quite a bit.  They both shoot well and I really like the shorter rifle - It is a good deer slayer and easy to use in the woods of northern Wisconsin.
But... The shorter rifle, stamped 1894. does not appear to have a serial number.  Was it filed off?
Does anyone know why the longer rifle has a stamp splatting out the  digit of the manufactured year? (189*?)

Can you post a couple photos of the left side of each receiver?  That way we can take a look and see what thoughts we may have.
