Welcome. I too have an 1896 sporter with a Springfield replacement barrel made in 1909. Not sure if its a Bannerman. Bubba had done left jaw marks in the barrel and receiver, likely when the barrel was replaced. The "new" barrel likely kept life in the old girl to help her survive these 113 years of existence after unknown use and abuse. They all couldn't survive in original dress. That even sporters survived as shootable specimens is impressive to me. You are still holding a piece of history in your hands.
