The U.S. Krag has a convenient way to check (and lubricate) the front tip of the Magazine Spring and its contact with the Carrier and Follower Assembly.  (It is best to remove the Receiver and Barrel from the Stock to avoid wood damage).  Lay your Krag Barrel/Receiver on a flat surface 'Bottom-Up'.  Gently pry up the flat spring on the tip of the Hinge Bar and rotate the Hinge Bar.  This exposes the tip of the Magazine Spring and its contact with the Carrier and Follower Assembly.  (Note-If you completely disassemble and re-assemble the Magazine Gate, the curvature of the Magazine Spring arches outward from its receiver recess and presses against the middle of the Gate/Hinge Bar assembly).
