Yes that is where it should be at go to this site ssfirearms.com and thay have differnt sites and hand guards. what I would do if I were you and want to keep the gun like your Grandfater had it I would order the handguard without the site cutout and take your screws out and put them away for a later time and just use the non site grove handguard. will make for a very nice looking gun and help stop burning your fingers on the hot barrel.
