pattyd82ab: Welcome to the KCA site. If you post some pictures of your 1898 Krag, you will get lots of helpful suggestions. If you check ebay and gunBroker for "krag", you will see a constant array of parts for sale. There are some decent looking repro stocks (oldsailor) and hand-guards that appear there. I'd suggest you get Joe Poyer's book (less than $20): 'The American Krag Rifle and Carbine'. It will answer many of your questions. Krag restoration is expensive. Knowledge will save you $$$$$.
