Title: New to me Norwegian Krag, have questions.
Post by BM1455 on Mar 1st, 2013 at 5:58pm
Just picked up a late model Norwegian Krag 1912/22 carbine.  This is my fist Krag .  The gun has had some limited sporterization done to it so it is missing the front barrel band and most of the fore section of both the upper hand-guard and the lower stock.  The mid barrel band is there.  The stock and gun are all matching #’s and does not appear to have been sanded so I would like to try to save as much of the original wood and finish as I can.  My initial thoughts are to find a reproduction fore-end and a repro upper hand guard, plus a late-model  front barrel band. (I’m assuming that original parts would be unavailable or too costly?? -not sure)  The plan would be to join the replacement lower fore stock to the original under the mid barrel band, thus hiding the seam.  The upper hand guard may be too thin to splice so perhaps a total replacement is in order for that part of it.  I also may need a replacement front sight blade but I will have to think about that a little more.  Anyone have any suggestions for a project like this and a source for the parts?

Gunbroker and eBay sometimes have parts for Norwegian Krags. I even saw a stock recently on eBay, I think. The person selling it was in Germany.

Yes, I have been watching GB/Ebay/ ect.  The stock you speak of on GB is for a full length m94 not the carbine.  It seems to be gone now.  Also, no upper hand gaurd is/ was included.  There was a carbine stock with all the hardware on Ebay that went for $300? about two months ago.....  I didn't need one then.   ;D
I would hate to cut a good stock for this project but if there is one that has a bad butstock or receiver section that would be possible.  I really just need the last foot of the wood - upper and lower and the end hardware.

oh my jesus!!! dont cut up a complete rifle stock please.... take a look at mine which I have posted and I will make you a deal, help me find a full stock and lets work something out so I get that one and you can purchase the one on mine. I have a sported stock on a full length rifle which would work well for a carbine model since it is replacement anyhow.... let me know if you want to try to figure something out. It would help us both, you would pay less for mine than a full length rifle stock that you end up trashing and it would cost me less to get the full length one working with you.

Perhaps my last post was not clear.  I would not cut up a good stock for a fore-end.  I would rather get a stock that was badly dameaged on the rear in the area of the butstock or receiver and use the fore-end of that.  Something that was un-savable but I could still use old wood.  Otherwise it will be a reproduction piece that will have to be made.  My gun is a model 1912 carbine so a full sized stock or one that has been sporterized will not work for me.  (My gun has been lightly sporterized and if it had not been, I would not be looking for a stock fore-end)  It has to be another late 1912 model stock to be rite.
