This sight was on my M1898 rifle I just purchased.  It appears to be a M1901C sight or at least 2/3rds of it.

There is a "C" marking on the base and the ladder,

but not the slide.  Does this mean that it isn't a Carbine sight?  Or only 2/3rds of a Carbine sight?

I do plan on shooting it some with cast bullets.  Should I look to trade it for a rifle sight or just forget about the markings use it as is and keep a log on the correct elevation settings for the actual target range?

If I do look to get the correct sight, is there any premium that accrues to a 1901 Carbine over a rifle sight?

I certainly appreciate all the knowledge shared here and couldn't even begin to repay you except to say THANK YOU again and again.

Bob
