Title: LER Handgun Scope Installed on S/N 168550
Post by Qbert on Mar 23rd, 2013 at 4:38pm
My eyesight is getting pretty bad, having to use "hexavision" (tri-focals) and am having trouble seeing the front sight (which is the edge of a silver dime thanks to great granddad). Decided to put a scope on. Got a short rail from KragHaus. Found that the rail was the correct size for the cut out in the upper grip wood but the pre-drilled and CBOR'ed holes didn't line up with the rear sight screw holes.  Re-drilled and CBOR'ed the holes so I wouldn't have to modify the wood. Everything screwed together tight, scope is rock solid. It certainly has improved groups at 100 yd and 200 yd. We'll have to see about how it does putting meat on the table next season.

Very nice. Now I now what I can look forward to. Doesn't Krag Haus advertise that the screw hole lineup exactly?

The screw holes do line up exactly with the tapped holes in the barrel. However, the original design for the rail was for rifles where the upper grip wood had been removed and the the holes were placed symmetrically in the rail. In my case I wanted to keep the wood intact so I just moved the hole pattern so that the rail fit into rear sight cut out in the wood. I have given my feedback and photos to KragHaus and he has replied that he will consider changing the location of the hole pattern to fit rifles with the upper grip still in place as the change would not affect mounting it on rifles where the wood has been removed.

Got the rail from KragHaus for about $35 and the scope from SWFA for about $300.  The rifle is just a hand-me-down but it is priceless to me due to the character given to it by my 3 previous generations.

I have one also. I mounted it with out the hand guard on a sporter. It works quite well. The biggest problem with hand guard mounting is that sight cut outs varied by sight model so there may not be a universal pattern. Selling one undrilled might work best.
