Does the gate move smoothly, stay open, and then actually 'snap' shut? I'm guessing the parts may not be properly assembled or the spring could be missing, put in backwards, or broken - but, as has been said, there is nothing that can be soldered or welded. Parts replacement is the only answer if there is a problem.
