Title: New here with my Krag Post by M4 M9er on Feb 10th, 2014 at 11:01pm
Good evening everyone my name is Mark out here in Los Angeles Cali, I just got home from my local gun shop and I bought a 24 inch Springfield 1898 with a serial #23****. I got it for $250.00 its in great condition and looks like it has been sporterized, I will follow up this thread with some pictures as soon as the 10 day waiting period is over >:(
Did I get a good price for this beauty? I found a reputable site that has ammo for $1.44 shipped but its 150 grain with a lead tip, is the 150 grain to low for this rifle, I see them going up to 220? Does anyone know of a website they can refer me to for ammo besides midway and sportsmanguide? Thank you. |

Welcome to the KCA forum M4 M9er! With a 24 inch barrel, it sounds like you have a cut-down U.S. Model 1898 Infantry rifle. $250 sounds like a good deal for a shooter/range gun. How good, depends on originality and condition of what's left. Lots of Krags do real well with 150 grain loadings. Some Krags will show feed problems. Most Krag shooters load their own once they get a 'brass base'. 1/5th the cost and at least twice the fun! Post pictures when you get her. "Waiting Periods"! You live in 'one Jacked-up State'. My condolences - California has lots of nice gun owners, but, politicians who should be put on trial for violating people's rights.

Welcome aboard,
the ammo you are getting is at a very good price as I have seen around my neck of the woods it goes for about $36 plus a box if you can find it at all. Brass is hard to find in my area unless you order it or get lucky at the gun show and find a bag there. I reload and use 150 grain round with no issues as of yet with either of my rifles. I have a model 94 and a model 96. |
