So let me start of i've been a reader on the forum for about a year now and this is my First post. There is a ton of knowledge on here thanks guys. Ok so I've been wanting a Krag for awhile now and my wife knew so she found one at an auction and bought it as an anniversary present for me. The problem is I know nothing about the Norwegian Krag except they shoot 6.5x55 and are some of the most accurate rifles. I'm wondering is this a M1912/18 and whats it missing or is it complete? The metal on this rifle looks amazing but not sure if it's worth keeping. Oh and the butt plate, trigger guard and front barrel band appear to be brass. Thanks in advance Dave

superjet03:  Welcome to the KCA forum.  You better keep this rifle or find a better husband for your wife on this forum (I am not available, darn)!
  What you have is a Norwegian Model 1912 Carbine that was built at the Kongsberg Vapenfabrikk (Arms Factory) in 1924.  Someone altered your Norwegian Krag by removing the hand-guard and rear barrel band, re-shaping the front nose cap, and installing an American style 'ramp' front sight.  The intent was to make a military surplus rifle into a handier 'Mannlicher' style hunting carbine.  These changes damage the collectability of your Krag, but, it is still a dandy rifle for shooting and hunting.  All the serial numbers, that I can see, match (I can't read the number on your bolt).  Hopefully, your rifle has a good bore.  The 6.5X55mm 'Swedish Mauser' cartridge is a great one and growing in popularity in the U.S.  You should play with this rifle, as is, and bond to it.  Don't look a gift horse (from your wife) in the mouth!  Take her shooting and have a nice picnic and bottle of wine after the guns are put away.  (Attached picture shows M-1912 carbine as issued).

superjet03:  Is this picture your butt-plate?  Someone has cut lines in the metal to 'improve' and make it non-slip.  This was done by Bubba.  BTW, there was no brass used in Norwegian trigger guards, butt plates, or fore-arm caps.  Bubba played with the metal finish.  (Test with magnet).

Yep that's the butt plate and the bolt does match. I was just hoping it was a civilian modified Norwegian. Thanks for the info butlersrangers. I shot it today and it shoots very smooth and a good 1-1/2" grouping at 75yrds I'm not the best shot either 🙀 did I really admit that
