Title: My half faux 1901 Carbine
Post by Prince Humperdink on Oct 20th, 2016 at 11:59pm
Hello Fellas,
Just sharing a few pics of my "1901 Carbine" that I bought from Dupage trading a while ago.Barrel, stock, and most of rear sight are legitimate, but receiver is 431550,which is way too late.Handguard is a repro from S&S,and front band is not carbine.Bore is mirror bright, and it shoots like a dream!I'll add some more, and better pics when I can.

PS,the pic of the target was from shots at 100 yards, and all of my brass was re purposed .303 brit brass.

Welcome Ryan to the KCA Forum. It looks like you have a nice serviceable 'Carbine' to learn with and enjoy!

Looks like a very nice shooter.  It should provide you with years of fun!

One question... in another thread, you stated that you had a correct carbine barrel.  Is the receiver marked 1898 or 1899?  If it's 1899, then it is definitely a carbine receiver... but if it's 1898, then it's definitely a rifle receiver.  You didn't state which.  Sometimes, a competent gunsmith would reattach the Krag front sight post after cutting the rifle barrel down to carbine length.  If yours is not a true carbine receiver, is it possible that the post has been reattached?  Just curious...

The receiver is definitely an 1898.I'll get some pics of the front sight. They also turned down the first 1/2 inch of the barrel and nobody seems to know why,but they were all like this? They were supposedly movie rifles, and mine had a brass insert in the magazine that prevented loading.

Here are a few more pics. The front sight base looks almost seamless to me.
