Do you have to take out the pin for the front sight blade to get the upper band onto the barrel of an 1898 Krag?

'Max1066' - Yes, the pin and front-sight blade must be removed from their base, in order to remove or replace the front barrel-band.

The small pin has a slight taper and should be driven 'left to right'. I have ground the tip of a nail to make a 'drift-punch' for the task. It doesn't take much force to remove the pin.
