The process was:
chemical stripper whitening steaming out the dents fit and contour repair section (used a small section of 1/4" threaded steel rod in place of a dowel, however, it made fitting the band crosspin difficult. Required splitting the pin and fitting it, although had i planned better the screw wouldnt have been an issue) stain with minwax red oak and dark walnut (For the stain i first wiped a light coat of mineral spirits onto the stock to make sure it didnt absorb too quickly, then adding more coats of either the dark or red until the color was close.) finally coat with boiled linseed oil, with light sandings using scotchbrite between coats to knock down hairs. |
