Looks like you have an 1898 rifle that was cutdown and sporterized to make it a more practical hunting rifle.  You have a 1903 banded front sight.  The full length rifle stock was shortened to carbine length, and I suspect that you'll find a plug in the front filling in the hole created by the lightening channel in the stock under the barrel.  1902 rifle rear sight.  The mark behind the trigger guard is a circled "P" indicating that it was test-fired for "Proof." 

Pretty nice sporter actually!  Should be a fine shooter and tons of fun at the range!  Since it's cutdown, there really is not much value like if it were original... in the $300 to $350 range.  How's the bore?  Also, what is the barrel length as measured from the muzzle to the closed bolt face?
