Title: 1894 Springfield 30-40 #105 Post by Tanman on Feb 21st, 2017 at 7:09pm
Hello everyone.
You guys have a great site and wealth of info here. I just got this krag this last weekend at a gun show. The seller didn't have any info on it. I'm pretty sure it's a 1896 rebarrel 22 inch and crowned. That's about it for info that I have found. If you guys have any questions let me know. I have been looking for a krag for a while now to add to my military rifle collection . |

Howdy, Welcome to the forum, and to the wonderful world of Krags!
Looks like you have an 1894 Rifle that has been modified to look like a Carbine. The barrel was most likely cut and recrowned. The front sight is an aftermarket banded front sight. The stock is a rifle stock that has been cut to resemble a carbine stock. This was all done most likely to make it more suitable for hunting. Looks like it's in pretty good condition too! How does it shoot? Sporters like this make great shooters! |

I haven't shot it yet. I still need to find ammo for it.

Looks like a banded 1903 Springfield sight... common on cutoff sporters.

Ammo is available. Check Graf & Sons. They have both loaded ammo and reloadable brass (something that has been sorely lacking in the marketplace until very recently) under their label. Also, Remington ammo with a 180 gr Core Lokt bullet is available from some sites, as well as frequently found in places like Cabelas, Bass Pro, and the occasional gun shop.
SAVE YOUR BRASS!!! If you don't normally reload, you might consider getting into it for the Krag, as loaded ammo is seasonal at best, and getting harder to find these days... AND is rather expensive! There are no shorter of people on this forum who will get you going in the right direction when loading for Krags. |
