This piece is marked 10-19-1903 on each end above the handles. Below the handles it is stenciled, "Model 1898 Rifle CAL. .30." It is also stenciled, "1000 Ball Cartridges/ Model Of 1898/ CAL. 30 FA Blend NG Lot Of 1914/ Reloaded And Repacked/Frankford Arsenal." The tin liner and lid are missing as is the norm on these old boxes.
