Title: Krag School Rifle?
Post by GUTS on Oct 2nd, 2011 at 4:05pm
Hi fellas, A friend of mine bought this rifle about ten years ago and he was told by the seller that it is a Phillipine Constabulary Rifle, I told him it is not because from what I've read there are very few here in the US and without lots of documentation it can not be verified. I think it is a School Rifle, is this correct? Never the less it is a very nice little rifle(carbine?) I forgot to get an exact barrel measurement when I took the photos.

IMHO, it is definitely NOT a PCR, of which no examples are known in the US.

It LOOKS like a "school gun", but I think it is a wannabe. Nearly all SGs are on 1899 receivers. They ALL had carbine sights. Most of them do not have the normal cartouche. Stock should have a band-retainer pin - I don't see it. Bayonet lug is not beveled. The whole front of the stock looks quite "fresh" and recently "disturbed". The filler block on mine is nearly invisible, and heavily oiled/patinated.
