Title: Krag carbine (maybe) 191006
Post by nedharris on Aug 5th, 2015 at 11:55pm
Thinking about buying this. It's been nicely blued, has a Williams target sight and no stock rear sight. Mint stock which looks new, no dents or chips (it may be in fact, new) with a circle "P" but no discernible cartouche. Two screws where rifle sling hardware may have been, sportster front sight. Don't know the barrel length. Butt plate with gate for the cleaning rod hole, which is there, but no cleaning rod (replacement stock?). Nice bore. Cosmetically a very nice rifle. Oh yes, serial number 191006. Marked as a 1898 model. They are asking $375 for it. I'm a trapdoor collector of sorts but love old Army rifles. Is it worth buying?
Thanks, Ned

As a sporter, yes, if it suits your fancy.  As a carbine, no.  None in that serial # range that I'm aware of, but I'm not sure as number sequences are getting harder to remember.

It sounds like it would be a nice cutdown sporter for hunting or target shooting... but with zero collector value.  The price is on par with some of the nicer sporters our there.

Thanks for the comments; I'm gonna pass on it. Ned
