Title: Where JSA lived
Post by butlersrangers on Dec 30th, 2015 at 12:07am
Joseph Sumner Adams lived at #99 Bay St. Springfield, Ma., from at least 1899 to 1930. His residence was a close walk to the Armory. Regrettably, it appears to be no longer standing.

If you sight between the rear of the SUV and the utility pole, you are probably seeing the Lot, where his house stood. (The SUV is on Bay St. The camera view is looking down Florida St., which ends at Bay, where the J.S. Adams home stood).

It would appear from the plat map that you are correct. That means that they not only revamped the numbers, but that they reversed the odd and even sides of the street - strange. Or perhaps, since none of the houses shown on Google appear to bear numbers. perhaps they are SNAFU?

Happy New Year!!!

What about Hosmer houses near SA?

Dick: Did you have ancestors living in Springfield, Ma. & approx. time period?

(I suspect some of the google earth addresses are messed up. The numbers I could see in photos of houses on Bay St. were Odd on the Right & Even on the Left. Old maps show Florida St. 'dead-ending' at #99 Bay St. The JSA home).

I know this much about my Great Great Grandfather's home - the location is now the pool at a motel.  I guess that means that us Steinmayers are all wet!  LOL

Is it 'OK' if we call you "Bob".

Yes, I had several cousins who worked at SA over a long span, ending in the 1920s. In fact, the Hosmer surname holds the record for length of tenure there.
