Title: hybrid woven cartridge belt???
Post by butlersrangers on Nov 16th, 2016 at 5:10pm
This rather nice .45-70 (45 loop) woven cartridge belt recently sold on ebay for a reasonable price.

The seller thought it might have been made by Mills, but, it lacks any markings.

To me, it appears to be a Hurlburt made belt, based on the 'unmarked' Brass End/Adjusters. (This type of End with small gauge 'closed wire' seems distinctive of Hurlburt belts.

However, the cartridge loops appear to be woven into the belt and not sewn on. The 'woven loop' is usually regarded as a proprietary process that was fiercely guarded by the Mills Company.

This belt is to me a strange 'hybrid'. Any Thoughts or Ideas???

Does anyone know what the 'Russell and Gilbert Loom' belts look like?

This belt is an enigma to me. (If I had been home, I would have bid on it).
