Title: A couple loads I'm trying
Post by madsenshooter on May 19th, 2017 at 4:43pm
Here's a couple loads I'm trying with NOE Bullet Mold's 311365 Spitzer.  Last week, I had the last three shot, after I'd walked POI onto the paper, of some I'd loaded with 32.5gr of 4064, fall into a 3/8" 100yd group.  I know the bullet likes going over 2000fps, unlike some  cast spitzer designs.  The alloy used is a very hard one, harder than linotype.  These weigh in around 190gr, checked and lubed.  In the not too distant future I'm not going to have money to buy match bullets, so I'm looking for a cast alternative.  Estimated BC on these bullets is .425!  I had a go at reproducing the 1907 Palma cartridge a few year ago, with the alloy I was then using giving a finished weight of 203gr.  But that didn't work out, the alloy was too soft.  Shot great, up to a point.  IRC I had some of the 190gr bullets to compare back then, and they were still performing ok with charges that had the 203s blowing alloy back on the case neck.  I'm still looking for the max with the lighter alloy, which is basically a babbitt.
