Title: A left-handed Krag?
Post by reincarnated on Jul 12th, 2017 at 5:47am
I recently acquired a couple of boxes of old Precision Shooting magazines.  On the July 1995 issue, the cover was a part of the Frederick Remington painting of the Rough Riders' charge up San Juan Hill.  In the September 1995 issue, there is a Letter to the Editor and several follow-up letters concerning a figure in the painting.  This is the guy in the foreground holding his hat on his head with his right hand.  In his left hand, the guy is holding his Krag carbine.  The letters to the editor claimed that Remington had painted the magazine & bolt handle on the left side of the carbine, where they ain't.

I looked at the magazine cover.  All I can see, even with a magnifying glass, is a lot of something, but what is it?  I believe the original painting is quite large.  What say you?

I 'google searched' the Remington painting online. The 'trooper' in question has a right-hand Krag model 1896 carbine. The feature that is shown on the left of the carbine is simply the 'sling-bar & ring'.
