Title says it all.

Came across an unshortened sporter in my travels. Not really looking for a project, but if it is a hit maybe I'll make them an offer.

Thanks in advance.

'MPF'- The closest numbers in Mallory's, "KRS", 2nd edition, appendix tables, are:

#5821, 1892 rifle, WW2 donation to U.S. Navy

#5844, 1892 rifle, 02/23/98, 10th Inf.

The Krag in question, #5838, started life as a model 1892 rifle.

Probably more significant than its serial number, would be the number of early parts on this cut-down rifle, and if, the receiver was 'notched' for the 'bolt hold-open pin' (model 1896 updates).

IMHO - probably a good one to pass on, unless, you want to build a 'replica' model 1892 Krag and the stock, bolt and action are all early parts.

Thanks.

What made me even think about it was that the barrel was full length.  The stock had been thinned and shortened to around carbine length.  Not a good look in my opinion.
