Title: Krag Pictures
Post by Doco Overboard on Nov 24th, 2017 at 9:34pm
New member here, I'm posting pictures of my rifle for the first time here. Its a good shooter but I like the later sights a little better because they work better for me. No inspectors marks except the proof on the wrist. The bore is in great shape and the lands are defined at the muzzle. Ive been shooting 180 Remington ammo and have just enough brass prepared to start working up a load for it.
Anything I can learn about it from the pictures would be appreciated. [img][img][img][img][/img][/img][/img][/img]<a href="   (You need to Login"><img src="   (You need to Login" title="source: imgur.com" /></a>

Get your Krag off the furniture!

Nice looking model 1896. It looks like it will be a sweet shooter.

Your rifle, being an 1896, has extra metal around the Bolt Seat that old timers I grew up around regarded as allowing the base of the Bolt Handle to act as a better safety lug than does the 1898 receiver.
That makes the 1896 Krag rifle actually have Two well defined safety lugs on the bolt, and not just One.
That, as Forest Gump would say, is always a Good thing.

It has a model 92 side plate on it, the difference can be seen in the taper over the screw, with the 92's taper ending in the middle of the screw whereas on later models the taper ends above the screw.  The 92 plate sometimes helps the later models that it will fit feed spitzer bullets better.
