Title: books about Krags
Post by Philngruvy on Dec 9th, 2017 at 10:57pm
I have a copy of Poyer's book " The American Krag Rifle and Carbine".  I would like opinions on whether or not "The Krag Rifle" by Lt. Col. William S. Brophy would be a worthwhile addition to my library.  Would it just be redundant information or does it have more useful info that is not found in Poyer's book?

There is quite a bit of overlap - and the same applies to Mallory's "Krag Rifle Story".

A REAL Krag nut will ultimately have to own all three, but the last two can be somewhat expensive. If you opt for Mallory, be SURE to get the (enlarged) second edition. All three books take a slightly different approach.

And, recently, there is also a fourth, "Farmer's Notes, vol. 6" by Joe Farmer, which has GREAT data (in his own inimitable style) but sub-standard photography.

All the above are good. One place to stay away from, however, is the Bowers website - he does NOT understand the nomenclature, and thus presents very misleading data.

Thank you for your comments.  I guess I will probably go for it. I have become addicted to my two Krags and I enjoy just holding them and thinking about the stories they could tell.

BTW,  I purchased your book "More .45-70 Springfields"  and I am thoroughly enjoying it.
