Title: Krags On Moving Picture, 9/15/1901 Post by Knute1 on Jan 27th, 2018 at 9:15pm
I have a great grandfather that fought in the Philippine Insurrection and also the Boxer Rebellion. He was with the 14th Infantry Regiment in Company I and served as a Private and bugler. The US soldiers were issued new 1898 Springfields before going off with the Chinese Relief Expedition that involved seven other nations. I have been putting the history of his involvement with the expedition together for other family members lest his feats be forgotten. One exciting thing I have found is a film of Company I with the funeral cortege of assassinated President William McKinley carrying their Krags. I have not been able to identify him in the film (not hi-def :)), but believe he is in it since he did not discharge from the Army until 1902. Following is a link with a film from the Library of Congress.

There were also some Civil War veterans in that march I believe.

Many of the older officers still serving in the military were Civil War veterans. President McKinley himself was a Union Brevet Major in the Civil War.
