Title: 'Philngruvy' Bolt Question? Post by butlersrangers on Feb 22nd, 2018 at 6:02pm
I tried responding to Phil's question, but, the thread seems to have disappeared.
He has an 1894 marked Krag with a later model bolt. He wondered if that was "safe". It is safe to use a later model (good) Krag bolt in a model 1892 action. The bolt he has may be a model 1898 bolt. It is missing its Safety and he is trying to find one. I would suggest trying one of the vendors listed in KCA 'Classifieds'. I don't see model 1898 Safeties listed too often on ebay. It may be easier and cheaper to buy a complete Bolt-Sleeve, with Safety & Extractor attached. (I don't have a spare). Attached is a picture of a model 1896 bolt (in the white) and a model 1898 bolt (that someone 'blued'). Note - a model 1898 bolt has a longer 'flat area' on the bottom of the handle (to clear the model 1898 Stock). |

Thank you BR. Yes I deleted the thread. I am a paranoid newby and I was afraid that my question was a stupid one , because it went unanswered for a pretty long time. I do appreciate that you took the time to answer my question. I still have not found a safety. Well actually I did, but I thought it was too much money. I might have to reconsider.
