I believe putting an external barrel band on your project Krag would take away from the nice clean Mannlicher lines.

I wonder if you might be able to use a barrel band sling swivel mount to meet your needs???

Attached are photos of my 1903 Mannlicher–Schönauer sling swivel.

Hardest part would probably be drilling the hole for the sling bolt.
