Title: Sling ID
Post by former173rd on Apr 21st, 2018 at 8:13pm
I'm looking for some help on a sling that "supposedly" is an original for a Krag.  I know pics will be needed but where on the sling would they be of most help?  Also, It seems the end where the brass hooks are is very thin....
thanks!

Mod....I hope this is the right area to post this.

'former173' - Welcome to the K.C.A. Forum.

This is what an original Krag sling looks like.

Length of sling and any 'markings' would be relevant information.

  (You need to Login

It is about 78" long, and has "Rock Island" and something else written on it (hard to read)
I have a Krag I am going to sell with the bayonet and front sight cover, and the sling, unless I should break them up.  Getting too old to enjoy shooting :-[

'former173rd' - At 78 inches long, it is likely your sling is for the Trap-Door Springfield rifle.

It is hard to tell, because of how it is folded. I suspect your sling has a seam, where two parts overlap and are sewn together?

This was commonly done to salvage leather from C.W. slings and make slings for the more modern weapons (trap-doors and Krags).

Krag slings seem to run 64 & 66 1/2 inches.

There is no seam, and i reameasured and came up with just under 67"....poor math!  I did notice the edges of the sling and keepers have a grove..decoration?
