Title: Interesting picture from Gunboards
Post by butlersrangers on May 2nd, 2018 at 4:34pm
This photograph was posted on Gunboards and was very likely taken in the Philippines.

The gentleman on the left has a Mauser carbine and cartridge belt. There are several things about him that do not look U.S. "GI" to me.

I like the unusual sling carry of the Sgt. It looks like his Stripes are pinned on.

Neat photograph, I'd like to see the original!

IIRC - Beards are pretty unusual on U.S. soldiers during the SAW???

This 'civilizing' is tricky business!

I wonder how the guy in the front left would feel if he knew he had a rifle pointed at the back of his head.

It's a matter of perspective.

I wouldn't be contentedly smoking my pipe with two rifles aimed at my crotch.

"Old Sarge" is pretty mellow!

BTW - Flamboyant 'boot guy', with the Mauser carbine, appears to have U.S. Army 8th Corps badge on his 'Montana Peak' hat and possibly a shooting medal on his chest.

(FWIW - 8th Corps was in the Philippines).

The guy with the Mauser carbine has what was once a Spanish Army cartridge belt.  I know things were pretty lax back then, but ??  My guess is the whole photo was staged.
