Aluminum Scabbards? Not likely any exist, but .... 'be lookin'

As Gen. Flagler said to his nephew, Benjamin:  " ..... aluminum is overrated, .... plastics my boy, plastics".

On 'intrenching' tools: "Hunting Knife discontinued" and digging with "meat can cover" - What's a meat can cover?

It appears the meat can cover was part of the mess kit. Why not use a cooking cover for digging yourself a trench. Then make supper using it as a lid? Very resourceful, no?
