Title: Chargers, or lack there of...
Post by psteinmayer on May 25th, 2018 at 1:00pm
I just wanted to offer my deepest apologies to those who have asked me to make them chargers recently.  Home, work, and family issues have occupied the majority of my time, and left me little time for anything else lately.  I will hopefully get something going before long, but at this point, I can offer no promises.  If you no longer want to wait, I do understand, and truly thank you for your consideration.

Best regards to all,
Paul Steinmayer

-Paul,
Thanks for the up date.  The CMP Western Games are coming up this coming November.  I'll wait for my two (2).

Time is something I have a lot of.  Not much in the way of brass sheet though.  Printing plate with a thickness of .011-.015 will work, but it likely depends on the alloy they're made of.  .011 is flimsy and would have to be handled carefully.  One charger I made from it works, but the tabs may not last long.  I got some .014 aluminum sheet off ebay that will not work, it'll break at a tight bend. I never did figure out how to size Parashooter's template right without wasting a lot of paper and ink so that I could make use of it.  It was easier for me to closely copy Paul's already made charger.

I've used brass, copper, aluminum, and steel. They'll all work if you do your part. Soldering steel or aluminum is beyond me, but it's not too tough to make a folded top joint that does the trick.

Those are very pretty colors and beautifully done Parashooter.

If you made some in 'camo' the World would come rushing to your door!

Using Camo chargers at Perry would pose a problem - The shooter couldn't find the charger to reload in the Rapid.  Also, other shooters would see rounds floating in the air as they went into the magazine...  Bwaaahahahahahaha

:D

On a more serous note for a moment.  Are these chargers governed by any CMP rules?  I would hate to have a 'DQ" issued to me at the CMP Western Games this coming November. :(

No rules so far against them.  Can't see it happening unless they want to give Krag shooters more time when competing against the stripper clip loaded Springfields in the Roosevelt match.

Well that's good to hear.  Sure don't want some RO to step up 'n say that it's some sort of space age as-salt speedy loader. ;)

I've been using mine for years now with nary a peep from the line judges.  To DQ a Krag with a charger, you would also have to do the same with a K-31, which uses a similar charger.  I've been making them for over 4 years, so with all that I've sold, there are several dozen being used in matches around the country... and I've never heard of a problem.  The rule is to rapidly reload five rounds, but the rule book has no provisions for how you facilitate that reload.

FWIW, I have a friend who increased his score with his 1896 from the 250s, to the 290s after he started using the chargers I made for him.  This man WINS matches with his Krag!!!
