Title: 1901 Krag Carbine
Post by RangeHound on Jun 24th, 2018 at 8:51pm
I am looking a carbine and comparing using Poyers book.  Would a carbine is the 346xxx serial range have a headless cocking piece?  I know Poyer has a few discrepancies.
Thanks

From what I have read, the 'headless cocking piece' was approved April 28, 1899, and disapproved October 11, 1900.

A Model 1899 Krag carbine, in the number 340,XXX range, would have likely been assembled around July - September, 1901.

It is likely such a carbine would have the more common type of Cocking Piece, when it was assembled at Springfield Armory in 1901.

BTW - There is no U.S. "1901 Carbine". There are U.S. Model 1899 carbines that were produced in 1901.
