Title: Finally took restored model 1896 to Range
Post by butlersrangers on Jul 19th, 2018 at 2:22am
I finally got my act together today and took my restored model 1896 rifle to the Range.

I only put 10 rounds through it for an initial test of accuracy, function, and the strength of my forearm splice.

The action fed my reloads smoothly, accuracy was promising, and the forearm remains stable. I didn't even bother with adjusting the 1902 type rear-sight, at 50 yards.

The rifle was a pleasure to shoot, but, I was having a Devil of a time with my sight picture. (I think I will make and try a wider front blade in the future).
The thin original blade kept fading in and out, with my 70 year old eyes.

This 'restoration' started as a barreled/action, with a full-length barrel and no wood.
The stock and hand-guard came from a 'cut-down' model 1896 'donor'. The forearm is a replica from a vendor in the KCA Classifieds.

Fine looking restoration!  Is this stock (recently posted) you did the forend extension repair?

Yes, restoration done back in Feb.-March. I let stain dry and glass-bedding joint 'cure'. Oil finish recently applied to new wood to match old.

That looks great Chuck... and looks to be a tack driver too!
