Title: Rear-sight dovetailed-collar (maker unknown)

I noticed this open rear-sight collar for sale, with a used commercial Krag stock, on ebay.

I don't know who made it, possibly Sedgley (?), with the "S" marking on the band.

Interesting alternative then actually dovetailing the barrel!

Yes, but, they would have gouged the stock and tossed the hand-guard.

Your dovetail is fortunately hidden by an original rear-sight.

Usually, the hobbyist dovetail destroys one of the tapped holes.

That's actually the anchoring point for a Miller Kodiak Mount.  The S is for Springfield.  Somewhere out there there are similar ones for the Krag barrel taper.  Some of their collars had the male dovetail that anchors the leaf spring of the mount machined on it.  Others have the female slot that a double male went into.  I find the double males upon occasion.

'madsenshooter' - Thanks for identifying the mount/part origin.

Noticed the collar is barrel shaped to lessen the visible modification to the stock. Good anchor point for a forward hold down also.

I think those for Krags were also marked by Miller, with a K of course.  I have ran across several homemade ones for various tapers.
