Title: Bought a new .30 cal mould.
Post by Baltimoreed on Oct 30th, 2018 at 6:31pm
Found this nice .30 cal Ideal mould on fleabay. Supposed to make a 180 gr bullet. I’m hoping it will work in my 300 blkout, 7.62x39, ‘03 Springfield and hopefully in my Krag. The bullets in the box are from another Ideal mould and weigh 170 gr but on the short side so I can’t use the crimp groove.

You don't have to worry much about the 'crimp groove' with the long .30-40 case-neck, providing tension.

(The bullets in the box appear .310" diameter, which is good for most Krags).

But, the new .308" bullet diameter mold may not fit some Krag bores fully.

Maybe the mold will cast your alloy 'oversize'?

Handsome looking projectiles!

Nice looking bullets.

I wonder what they would weigh with pure lino.

It is supposed to cast .311 sized boolits so should be good for a Krag.

Might want to slug, or measure your bore. My Krag rifle measures .308 in the grooves, and .306 on the lands, at the muzzle. It shoots .308 bullets one minute, or better. It shot a 1 and 3/4 inch group at 300 yards.

I’ve tried .308 lead and jacketed in my krags and they don’t shoot well. My 170 gr wheelweight cast bullets come out of my lubrisizer at .3095-.310 which seem to work good in my krags, an ‘03 Springfield and a mini30. Hopefully my new spire point mould will size down to the same when I size, lube and seat the gas check.

I had one of those at one time and still have some of the bullets around.  With a little sizing down of the upper band the nose fits a .3055 groove diameter K31 very good.  NOE bullet molds produced the 311365 spitzer so folks with oversized bores would have a spitzer with a larger nose.  Their rendition has a very sharp pointed nose.  I've used the top punch for the 308329 bullet to swage down jacketed hollow points in order to make them feed more reliably through my Krags.
