Title: Thinking about building a carbine shooter
Post by bote on Nov 7th, 2018 at 11:22pm
I'm considering building a carbine for vintage competition.  I love to shoot vintage matches but there's nothing wrong with having an accurate rifle.  None of my correct Krag rifles are as accurate as a cutdown with a 27" barrel I own.  She has a Redfield no-drill and will group slightly over an inch but of course is not legal for CMP.  Nothing I have tried with my rifles will make them approach this accuracy.  The best rifle has a new Criterion barrel and groups about 1.75".  I think the issue is the long barrel/stock and that the carbines may be inherently more accurate.  I have a model 1898 with a blasphemous Bishop monte carlo stock that I could rebarrel with a 24" Criterion and stock it to original carbine dimensions.  Anybody have firsthand comparisons on carbine versus rifle accuracy?
