Congratulations on having an authentic 1896 Krag Carbine! There are some condition issues but these are uncommon enough that condition doesn't matter as much. Your carbine, made in 1898, is wearing the 1896 rifle sight which is very common because the correct 1896 carbine sight is very difficult to find today and will cost upwards of $600. The patina certainly shows lots of honest use and wear.

I wonder if it's just the picture and shadows but the butt plate looks separated from the stock somewhat. I don't know what that means but a better picture might clear that up. there might be some damage to the rear of the stock if it is indeed separated.

My main question would be the condition of the bore. With so much wear externally, I would be concerned that the bore may be in bad shape. Hopefully not. Please let us know if you can tell.

Almost all of my Krags come into my house needing a good bore cleaning. The bore always looks nicer after some good Krag lovin' TLC!

Hope you can shoot and enjoy your carbine if it is bullet worthy!
