My 1898 Krag rifle, was made in 1901. The barrel looked fair, and after conventional cleaning (Hoppes), still looked just fair. Then I used a bench rest shooters suggested cleaning method, and the bore now is excellent. I used Kroil, and JB'S bore cleaning compound to thoroughly clean the bore.
